Update June 2024

I'm still hanging in and continuing my day to day activities without too much pain.  I'm not active other than going for walks with my dog and feel great doing that.  Jabbing pain happens from time to time and I experience the most discomfort and mild pain going up a flight of stairs.  Losing weight is going to help with managing the arthritis so that is my next goal!  Not an easy one.

Arthritis

Results from X-ray came in and I moderate arthritis in all 4 capsules of the left knee. Talked about injections. Wanting to find local orthopaedic doctor for proximity to home. Seeing Dr Elkurbo tomorrow for initial visit.

Back up to see Dr. Bernie Lalonde

I'll be heading back up to Ottawa on Monday, February 27th to see Dr. Lalonde.  I've been experiencing some swelling in the knee.  It also tends to give out or catch while I'm walking.  I have pain going up and down the stairs and I have little to no confidence in it going downstairs.  I just want to get it checked out, perhaps there needs to be a cleaning done of scar tissue etc.  Maybe it's arthritis but I'm sure he'll send me for an xray or MRI.  Updates will come.

Surgery this Week!

So getting a few things in order: find Zimmer Brace, crutches, Cryocuff, etc.. so that I'm set to head up to Ottawa on Friday.  Feeling good as I know what to expect but I think I have forgotten how painful and frustrating it's going to be.  All I need to do is find out time of surgery on Thursday night and we're all set.  Surgery #3
#1 Dr. G. Dervin (acl, mcl) Ottawa Hospital
#2 Dr. G. Dervin (cleaning scar tissue, bone fragments) Kemptville Hospital
#3 Dr. A. Marshall (Meniscus, acl), Montford hospital

So the results are in ....

So after visiting Dr. Bernie Lalonde at the Carleton Sports Medicine Clinic (Love the Place !) I was sent for an X-ray of my knee to rule out any arthritis etc..  The X-ray came back clear so I was sent for an MRI.  I returned to the Carleton Clinic to get the results of the MRI and it cam back with both Meniscus and ACL concerns.  It seems that I have some tearing in the Meniscus that needs some fixing and my ACL graft may be compromised????
Dr. Taryn Taylor referred me to Dr. Andy Marshall (surgeon) to discuss the next steps in this journey.
After meeting with Dr. Marshall it was determined that I would have surgery to fix the meniscus and most likely a revision surgery on my ACL.  The MRI was not 100% clear on the ACL issue but it does look as though we may need to do that one again.  So we are preparing for an ACL revision using an allograft.

Surgery Date:  October 25th, 2019

What have I done now? November 25th, 2018

I can't believe this blog is still out there on the internet.  It's great to look back to remember what I've gone through and to appreciate how I've been doing since the accident.  However, last week, my knee gave out walking up a flight of stairs and I was pretty immobile for the entire week.  The pain jabbing into the lateral side of my knee was something I haven't experienced before.  Over the course of a few days, my knee began to swell and the pain when my knee began to bend was unbearable... so out came my zimmer brace.  Any slight bend or rotation of my foot seemed to cause the pain.  I'm sure it's something like scar tissue or meniscus but I will know more when I head to Ottawa on Monday, November 26th to the Carleton Sports Medicine clinic to see Dr. Lalonde.  Over the weekend I worked hard at getting through the pain and making sure I could bend my knee but every now and then something catches and that pain returns.  Stairs are a no no as I do not trust my knee.  I will update when I know more.

Wow, I haven't visited my own blog in a LONG time.  I guess that's a good thing and that I have nothing great to post.  Where am I at with my knee? .... not very active but I try to get some exercise at the gym, walking on treadmill and doing some weight machines.  Anything close to a run makes me feel uneasy.  I have a great deal of pressure where my MCL was replaced and when I sit with leg at full extension for a prolonged period of time, it is very painful to bend.  I know I should go to get things checked out again but I'm feeling they may want to go in and "clean things up".  I'll keep you posted.

Surgery date Ho Ho Horrible

Well, as expected I received a phone call for my next surgery. The downside is that it is on December 23rd, 2011. Hoping that he will see what is bothering me, scar tissue, meniscus etc... Let everyone know the outcome over the holidays

Funny how things go ... I've reposted Sept 23rd, 2010 post ... Imagine That!!

"As much as things change, they remain the same" ... I'm back at work half days as I wait for surgery.  One year ago, this was my post ... September 23rd, 2010 I said, "Well, the waiting game for a phone call regarding surgery is eating away at me.  I was told that I should be receiving a phone call this week but I'm not holding my breath because I know how busy the orthopedic surgeons are in Ottawa.  I guess my anxiety is due to the fact that if I get a call - it's reality.  Although I'm managing fine right now, the knee needs fixing.  I think I'll head out for the day and hope that there's a message when I get back home."
